PRE-EGEA 2018 SYMPOSIUM Presentation
” Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food “. The role of food on health has been documented since Antiquity. A large number of pathologies, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, or certain cancers can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle, combining physical activity and balanced diet, focusing on plant foods.
In partnership with the University Claude Bernard Lyon I, Aprifel organise the symposium “When young general practitioners commit to healthy eating”.
This event will be co-chaired by Jean-Pierre Dubois – University Professor in general medicine and Ambroise Martin – Professor of Nutrition.
Sharing knowledge and experience to develop solutions
Do interns in General Practice have a healthy diet? Does the way how general practitioners eat affect the recommendations that they give to their patients? What can motivate patients to change their dietary lifestyle? Convinced of the crucial role that the doctor can have by adopting a healthy lifestyle, six young interns in General Practice of the University of Lyon have dedicated their thesis doctorate of medicine to these questions. Their ongoing works will be presented during this symposium. The importance and the difficulties to provide nutritional advice in general practice will also be a key subject during this conference.
Dr. Dominique Durrer is Associate Physician at the Department of Community Diseases and Therapeutic Teaching at the University Hospital of Geneva. She chairs the association Eurobesitas and is a member of the European Network for Prevention and Health Promotion in Family Medicine and General Practice. She will participate in the debate.
By sharing experience, this interactive moment aims to reveal ways to facilitate the involvement of doctors in the prevention of chronic diseases. Participation to the Symposium will be taken into account for the medical training of the University of Lyon 1.
100 health professionals and general practitioners invested in primary prevention are waited. This event will also host world-renowned nutrition experts.
This event will take place the day before the international conference, EGEA “Nutrition & Health: From Science to Practice”, that will gather all of the contributors interested in promoting a healthy sustainable diet, rich in fruits and vegetables (scientists, health professionals, policy makers, journalists, professionals in the Fruit and Vegetables sector, …).
